Hello...it's May

Ok I'm back.
I mean where back!
Yes I have been slack but I've been trying to juggle, not the soft round balls either, but life like all of us.
Soooo I think at the moment I've got that juggling thing at a good spot.

Any way how are you?
How are you enjoying the produce?

One story I wanted to share is that of the Brussels Sprouts. The last few weeks we have been enjoying these little green gems. Well they come from a man called Sam. He grows then in Narre Warren, which is southeastern of Melbourne. He picks and bags them himself in lovely hessian bags. It has been lovely to support him and his big smile that greets Shanaka at 3.30am.
A few weeks back Anne sent us a delicious link to Braised Brussels Sprouts. http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2011/11/dijon-braised-brussels-sprouts
We tried this at Spikes house and loved it!
At Scouts house they like to roast them in the oven with some oil and salt for about 45mins. They come out nutty and soft.

Here is a little snap shot at some of the goings on from us.

Until next time

Summer Holidays

Hello there...
It's been quite some time since we chatted last, we know. We have been making the most of the warm days, taking trips to the cool salty water, riding our bikes, camping with friends, coffee and chats, dinner dates and having picnics and spending time at "The Patch". The summer break was just lovely for us. How did you spend your time?

THE PATCH:
We have quite a crop at the moment . Many of the Wooden Box peeps have been enjoying the produce at the Community BBQ's, that we have been having. This Sunday we are holing another at 5pm. You might like to join us. It's so nice to mingle with our neighbours and help out each other when needed.
Perhaps you might like to come too? We have a webber and plenty of soft green grass for little and big toes to squish. Bring something to share or just come along. It would be nice to meet you.

Spike and Scout have been growing too! It's all the sun and water play we think!!
Scout is a very confident walker/ runner and Spike is saying a whole range of words.
If you have children or nieces or nephews or grandchildren, you will know how fast time travels in the first few years of life!

How have you been enjoying your boxes?
What have you been cooking?

Scouts House made a lovely Borscht with the beets we have been getting. Another nice way to eat the Beetroots is cooking them on the grill of the BBQ or roasting them with some balsamic and onions, toss it into some quinoa with some fresh herbs and your got a nice salad thats quite delish!!
Aya Tim and Uki, taught Spikes house how to make a delicious Miso Eggplant.

In the boxes this week:
Eggplant
Sweet Potato
Potato
Purple and Orange Carrots
Bok Choy
Celery
Broccoli
Onions
Grapes
White Peaches
Nectarines
Apples
Bananas

Until next time happy cooking, playing, sun catching, coffee drinking, sleep catching and smiling.

Scouts Christmas Tree

Not much room for a tree in out little house,
But feeling festival we were, Scout, Roadie and Mouse,
Put our gifts up high on the mantel not floor,
Away from a nosing hand, sniffing nose, or paw.

Spikes 1st Christmas Tree!!

We have formed a bit of a habit in our house. It's not a bad one. It's actually quite fun!
Last year we were talking about getting a tree and then the days seemed to run away with time. After a nap I walked into the lounge to find that Spikes dad had made a Christmas tree! He had collected a bunch of books and arranged them from biggest to smallest until, it form a nice tree like pointy top!! It was magical and fun!!

So this Year it was my turn to be creative.
This years tree is based on my love for growing veggies and my newest love Spike. It's a teepee garden stake baby jars filled with soil that have beans placed inside, Tree!! Yes, it's quite a title!
Grace commented "Santa must love coming to our house because he must love getting a surprise because our tree is always different"
Once the big event is over, the beans will be placed into the garden and the stake will be hammered into the ground, so that the beans can climb up and produce nice crunchy beans for the house.

Stormy Packing...

Wow...so it's nearly the last box drop off for the year! We have really enjoyed packing up your produce each week. We get excited to see what Spikes dad has purchased from the markets and love tasting as we pack.
What do you have planned for your summer holidays, however big or small they are?
In Spike house we will take some trips to the coast to visit friends and in Scouts house a camping adventure is happening along the river banks.
Thank you to you for helping to make this little business grow.
Love Brooke, Katrina, Scout and Spike xxx
